Allentown, PA Air Conditioner & Heating Repair Services
History
The lands surrounding Allentown were purchased from Indian tribes during the early 1730s by the Penn brothers. William Allen later purchased the 5,000 acres that would be the start of Allentown from their business partners. In 1762, the town was laid out with the original name of Northhampton Town. While Allentown largely remained in the shadows of larger Philadelphia, its place in history was cemented when the Liberty Bell was successfully hidden inside of the city during the Revolutionary War.
Allentown is a historic city located in Easter Pennsylvania north of Philadelphia. While it is commonly thought of as a small town destination in rural Pennsylvania, it is actually the state’s 3rd largest city, the center of the Lehigh Valley region, and the fastest growing city in Pennsylvania. The city’s motto of “Sic Semper Tyrannis” dates back to the colonial days.
Things to Do
Part of Allentown’s charm is that it has remained largely untouched by time — many original stores and industrial buildings can still be seen downtown. The Liberty Bell Museum and Museum of Indian Culture are popular tourist destinations. However, the city has also modernized with modern entertainment venues such as the 1,200-seat Miller Symphony Hall and the 10,000 seat PPL Center concert venue.
Climate
Allentown residents enjoy four distinct seasons each year. The summers can be hot and muggy with an average July high of 86 degrees and occasional hotter heat waves. Winter temperatures are frigid with January lows averaging 24 degrees and an average annual snowfall of just over two feet. Rain falls evenly throughout the year, so there is no long rainy season to worry about.
