Congress Protects Gas-Powered Tankless Water Heaters

Today, the U.S. Senate voted 53-44 to approve H.J. Res 20, a Joint Disapproval Resolution introduced by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) under the Congressional Review Act. This resolution aims to overturn a rule issued on December 26, 2024, that would have significantly reduced the market for non-condensing, gas-fired tankless water heaters. Had it gone into effect, the rule could have eliminated around 40% of current product options and increased consumer costs by as much as $450. The House of Representatives passed the resolution earlier in March with 221 votes, and it now heads to the White House, where NPGA anticipates swift approval from the President.

NPGA has been a strong advocate for this outcome on Capitol Hill and extends its thanks to Sen. Cruz and Rep. Gary Palmer (R-AL) for their leadership. Their efforts help preserve American manufacturing jobs and keep energy costs down for families and businesses across the country.
